Two former teachers running a boutique design-build firm

VanderBeken Remodel has offered kitchen remodeling in Marysville, WA and across Snohomish County since 2007, from its base on State Avenue. Ron and Jennifer VanderBeken run a family-owned, boutique design-build firm, so design and construction stay under one roof with a single point of contact from the first call to the final walkthrough.

Ron and Jennifer VanderBeken, builders by family and training

Ron VanderBeken found his love of building while working construction jobs as a student at Seattle Pacific University. After years of teaching and work in custom home building, he became a project manager for a custom home builder in 1998.

Jennifer grew up in the trade: her father and grandfather were Seattle-area home builders, and she cleaned job sites as a child. After a career as an elementary school teacher, she joined Ron to launch VanderBeken Remodel in 2007. Ron is co-owner and general manager, and Jennifer is co-owner and operations manager.

Marysville remodeling questions, answered

What is design-build, and why does it matter for my kitchen?

Design-build puts designers, architects and the general contractor on one team. Instead of hiring a designer, then collecting bids and acting as the go-between, you work with a single point of contact. The budget and buildability are considered from the first sketch, which helps avoid the overruns and delays of design-bid-build.

Will I know the full price before work starts?

Yes. During the Development phase VanderBeken prepares concept drawings, 3D renderings, a detailed scope of work and a fixed investment price, using an advanced estimating system. You see the complete picture before production begins, which is meant to give you control and predictability over the cost of the remodel.

What warranty do you offer?

Every remodel comes with a two-year warranty. After the final walkthrough, where any concerns are addressed, the team follows up at 90 days and again at 12 months to make sure everything is still performing and meeting the firm's standards. You also keep your dedicated project manager as a contact.

Can you make a bathroom accessible without it looking institutional?

Yes. Ron and Jennifer are Certified Aging in Place Specialists, and the firm won the 2025 REX Award for Universal Design Excellence. One Lake Stevens client had a 1981 main bath turned into an ADA bath that, in her words, does not look or feel like it.

Can I bring my own architect or designer?

Sometimes. Clients occasionally ask to bring their own architect or interior designer, and VanderBeken evaluates each request individually. The team wants to be sure it can coordinate well with them and still deliver the service and results it promises, so raise it during your first call or office visit.
